A year ago next week, in a secret cove a half mile off the highway, the Santa Cruze Bodysurfing Association convened for a morning of competition. The air was a foggy gray. The water was a crisp 58°f. More than a hundred competitors surfed in heats 6-8 at a time. The 3 judges moved their chairs as the tide changed. Time was kept on someone’s wrist watch. A great time.
